カンザスシティ日本語補習授業校は１９７９年、わずか５人の生徒をリビングルームに集め、寺子屋のような形で始まりました。日本を離れて、徐々に日本語を忘れていく 子供達を見かねた保護者がボランティア講師となり、授業を行いました。この熱意と努力の積み重ねにより、１９８４年には初めて、カンザスシティ日本語補習授業校として、当時の文部省と外務省から認可されました。

現在、カンザスシティ日本語補習授業校では、工作や歌、絵本などで日本語に触れる幼稚部、国語と算数・数学を中心とした授業を行う小・中学部のほか、日本語が母国語ではない１８歳以上の方対象のＪＦＬクラスも合わせて開設しています。

The Kansas City Japanese School began in 1979 with only five children and a living room for a classroom. The volunteer teachers were those concerned Japanese mothers who noticed their children’s Japanese language skills deteriorating. With much determination and dedication, the group grew to twenty children by 1984 and was formally established and approved by the Japanese Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs as a Japanese supplementary school. Our mission is to provide cultural experiences that enable children from grade K through 9 to acquire a foundation of skills to become productive global citizens. As we look forward to the future of our school, we continue working toward a better global understanding by sharing our language and culture in the local communities.
